Personal project
Locus
A protocol that identifies books by content: a readable key that groups every edition carrying the same text.
- Context
- An ISBN identifies an edition, not a work. Reprints, different publishers and boxed sets of the same text all carry different codes, and there is no stable key that says the content is the same.
- Approach
- A grammar that composes the key from type, identity, author, language and structure, and can be validated without a database; ISBN and publisher stay edition metadata. Ingesting a code queries external sources and creates a new bucket only above a confidence threshold; below it, the proposal is queued for manual confirmation.
- Status
- Protocol at version 0.1, with a public demo: translation from ISBN or title to key, ingestion, and the proposal queue.
